Harvest 2017 is approaching rapidly with many predicting an early harvest - especially for barley. Farmers are also predicting reasonable yields but the weather is still the biggest player and its impossible to predict what nature brings.
As you know harvest is the most important time of the year for farmers - and it is critical to their livelihoods that their crops can be stowed away in good dry conditions as quickly and efficiently as possible. We also have to cool the grain as quickly as possible as grain can get very hot, but whenever possible intake fans are turned off from 11.00pm to 6:30am.
We listened to some of the issues raised over recent years and our store has had a lot of investment during the past year on reducing noise and dust so hopefully we will see the benefits of this at harvest.
Our opening times will vary through the period but will generally be from 7am to 7pm (last vehicle arriving) for 6 days a week but try to reduce deliveries on Sundays unless conditions dictate otherwise. To enable us to get the grain dry we will need to use our driers and therefore we may have to work 24/7 (nights) from early August to mid September - especially if the harvest is wet.
We would like to pass on our thanks to all of our neighbours, we really appreciate your co-operation during this really busy period.
Should you have any concerns you can e mail email@example.com or call the office on 01354 740691 and we will respond accordingly.
